"Booking was more hassle than I expected"
The site keep freezing when I got to payment, so I had to start over twice. It was annoying tbh, especially when I just wanted to finish the booking and be done with it.

"Always overcrowded"
Pretty much every time I travel with gwr, the train is packed. Because there aren’t enough seats, people end up standing in the aisles and by the toilets. I paid full price for my ticket, so not even being able to sit down felt really frustrating. It just makes the whole journey stressful

"Toilets were actually disgusting"
Used gwr today and the toilet on the train was grim. The floor was wet, there was no toilet roll, the bin was overflowing, and it smelt really bad. It actually looked like it hadn’t been checked in ages.
I know train toilets are never going to be amazing, but this was just nasty. For the price of the ticket, it’s really not good enough. I’d avoid using them if you can.

"Refund process needs work"
The service itself is usually fine, and I’ve had decent experiences when everything runs on time, but the refund process has been really frustrating. My train was cancelled, so it wasn’t exactly my choice, and I filled out all the forms they asked for. After weeks of waiting, all I got was a generic copy-and-paste reply and then nothing. I get that delays happen, but it shouldn’t be this hard to get money back for a cancelled train

"Customer service took way too long to reply"
I contacted GWR about a refund it took days before I got a proper response. The first reply felt like a copy-and-paste message and didn’t really help at all. Compared to other train companies I’ve dealt with, the trains themselves are fine, but the customer support felt much slower than I expected.

"Felt stupid for trusting them again"
The cafe was shut again. I feel stupid for trusting that it would actually be open this time. No food, no drinks, just another wasted trip.

"There really wasn’t much room for bags..."
There really wasn’t much room for bags or bikes. The bike area was already full, and luggage was piled up everywhere. Compared to other trips I’ve taken, this one felt especially cramped

"Wi-fi was basically useless"
The wi-fi was pretty much useless during my whole trip. I could not even get my emails to load, and the connection kept dropping over and over. It was really annoying, especially when I needed to check something quickly

"The website is always crashing when I need it"
It’s getting really frustrating. Every time I actually need to use the website, it’s either down or keeps crashing. I don’t have time to keep refreshing and waiting around for it to work.

"Ticket prices have gotten out of hand"
Tickets are just way too expensive now. Prices keep going up, and I don’t really feel like the experience matches what you’re paying anymore. At this point, I’d rather skip it unless there’s a really good deal

"Pretty uncomfortable ride, haha"
The train was absolutely packed, and the seats felt so hard the whole way. There was barely any leg room, and it got way too hot onboard, haha. Not the most comfortable trip, to be honest.

"Always feels like I’ve just missed the train"
I don’t know if I’m reading the timetable wrong or if the times have changed, but there just never seem to be enough trains running. I’ll get there thinking the next one is soon, then somehow it’s a much longer wait than I expected. The gaps between trains feel way too big, and it gets frustrating standing around for ages

"Honestly, the staff were no help at all"
I had such a frustrating experience with gwr staff. I literally just asked a simple question about my train and the response made me feel like I was bothering them. I was already a bit stressed from travelling, and instead of getting a clear answer, I ended up even more confused. i walked away thinking, “Seriously?” Not the kind of help you expect when you just need some basic information...

"Felt let down trying to get accessibility help"
I had such a frustrating time trying to get accessibility support from GWR. I felt like I was being made to work way harder than I should’ve just to find basic information on the website, and when I did reach out, the replies took ages and didn’t really answer what I needed.

It made the whole journey planning feel stressful and unfair, like I was just supposed to figure it all out on my own. Maybe other people have had better luck, but for me it really felt like accessibility wasn’t a priority and I was left chasing for help.

When the trains were disrupted, there was barely any clear information given. People were just left standing around not knowing what was going on, which feels unfair. If a service is delayed or cancelled, the least they can do is keep passengers properly updated

"The connections are a joke"
I’m so fed up with using gwr.com to plan journeys. It’ll show connections like they’re totally doable, then one train is delayed by a few minutes and suddenly the whole thing falls apart. The worst bit is the app or website still seems to carry on like everything is perfectly fine, even when you’ve clearly got no chance of making the change.

Ended up standing around again today with barely any useful updates, just waiting and guessing what I was supposed to do next. If you actually need to get somewhere on time, I really wouldn’t rely on the connections it gives you. It’s just frustrating having to deal with this over and over

"The GWR app on mobile is..."
The GWR app on mobile is just a hassle. It kept freezing, freezing right when I was trying to check train times or buy a ticket. And the login seems to forget me constantly, like every time I open it. I ended up having to use the website instead while I was rushing for my train. Really, really not good enough.

My train was really late, so I put in a compensation claim with GWR. Weeks gone by. Still nothing helpful. Just odd emails. No proper update. Feels like they make it confusing on purpose, hoping people just give up. The journey was bad enough. Having to chase the refund after it is even worse. Not impressed.

I booked on gwr.com and picked seats for me and my partner, thinking that was all sorted, but when we got on the train the seats were already taken. Unless I’ve mixed up the timing somewhere, which is possible because the whole thing felt a bit unclear, there were no little reserved labels showing either, so it turned into an awkward back-and-forth.

The staff were friendly enough and didn’t make it worse, but the answer was basically just to sit wherever we could. That’s not really ideal when you’ve planned around sitting together, especially when you think you’ve reserved seats for that journey and then suddenly it feels like maybe the reservation was for a different time or just didn’t register properly.
The website itself was easy to use, so I don’t really understand where it went wrong. I booked, chose the seats, turned up when I thought I was supposed to, and then the reservation didn’t seem to mean anything. Frustrating overall.

"Train Was Dirty Again"
It wasn’t great. The seats had crumbs everywhere, the table was sticky, and the toilet was unpleasant too. I don’t want to make a huge fuss, but for what GWR charges for tickets, it really doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect the trains to be kept a bit cleaner
